Color and Stain Matching

From the color reference to the finished surface, the details make the match.

We develop paint and stain samples for designers, contractors and homeowners who have a specific result in mind. An existing built-in, a textile or a color reference starts the process. The wood, coating, sheen and room lighting shape the final match.

Start with the reference

Paint chips, fabric, wallpaper and physical wood samples establish the color direction. Photos are useful for inspiration, but screens and printed images do not reproduce color exactly. For woodwork, cabinet stain samples help compare the new finish with existing pieces.

We work to the PCA Industry Standards. Applicable preparation and sample requirements are agreed in each written scope. See how we define preparation, samples, and the finished surface.

Carry the color through the design

Coordinate millwork with cabinetry, connect a wall color to fabric, or develop a custom tone for Decorative Plaster or lime wash. The chosen product and surface determine which colors and effects are achievable.

A physical sample for a shared reference

We compare samples in the intended room and review adjustments with you. For stain, a representative wood surface matters: grain and species influence both color and absorption. An approved sample gives the designer, contractor and homeowner a shared reference for the work.

Judge the color in its setting

Daylight, lamps and neighboring materials change how a color reads. Review the sample beside the materials it will meet and in the light it will receive. That context is part of selecting the finish.

Scope and estimate

The estimate identifies the sample development included in your project. Stand-alone matching and additional sample work are scoped separately, with timing and cost discussed in advance.

Questions

Planning your project.

Understand the references, sampling and surface details involved. For a specific color or stain, talk with our team.

How many sample rounds will we need?
That depends on the source color, coating and surface. A physical paint chip may be straightforward; aged wood or a custom decorative finish can take more refinement. We agree on the sample scope before starting.
What does color matching cost?
Sample development is listed in your project estimate. For stand-alone matching, we review the source material and the number of finishes involved before quoting the work.
When will the first sample be ready?
Timing depends on product availability, mixing and drying requirements. We confirm the expected timing after reviewing your reference and selected finish.
What sources can you work from?
Paint chips, fabric, wallpaper and wood samples are useful starting points. Photos and magazine images can guide a color direction, but physical samples are the most helpful references for a close match.
Can you guarantee an exact match?
Different materials, wood grain, aging and light can prevent an exact match. We review physical samples with you to agree on the closest practical result before applying the finish.
